One of the greatest differences you'll experience at Seawood is the direct involvement of our owner.
Founded by Sonja Gunter, a licensed nurse with more than two decades of healthcare experience and nationally recognized expertise in dementia and senior care, Seawood reflects her personal commitment to treating every resident as if they were her own family member.
Unlike many larger communities where ownership is distant, Sonja remains actively involved in the home's operations, clinical oversight, and resident experience. Families have peace of mind knowing the person who built the home is deeply invested in the quality of care delivered each day.

The Story Behind Seawood
Seawood Personal Care Home is more than a business—it is a deeply personal mission rooted in love, compassion, and lived experience.
The home is named in honor of Aaron O. Seawood, father of owner Sonja Gunter, who courageously lived with Alzheimer's disease and dementia for ten years. During that journey, Sonja witnessed firsthand both the challenges of dementia and the unwavering devotion of her mother, who lovingly cared for her husband throughout their 62-year marriage.
Watching her father gradually lose pieces of his memory while her mother faithfully became his advocate, caregiver, and constant source of strength forever changed Sonja's understanding of what families experience every day. She saw the emotional, physical, and spiritual toll that caregiving can take—but she also witnessed extraordinary love, resilience, and grace.
Those experiences became the foundation for Seawood Personal Care Home.
Every resident who walks through our doors is cared for with the same compassion, patience, dignity, and respect that Sonja wanted for her own father. Every family is treated with the same understanding she wished others had shown her mother during her caregiving journey.
Seawood exists because we believe every person deserves to age with dignity, every caregiver deserves support, and every family deserves a place where their loved one is treated like family—not just another resident.
